William Fredrick Mennell

William Fredrick Mennell, 69, of Hattiesburg passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Merit Health Wesley Hospital. Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Mennell grew up in the Westminster Presbyterian Church was an All American athlete at Hattiesburg High School and Pearl River Community College in football. He enjoyed refereeing at the high school and junior college level. He received his Nursing Degree, and then went on to obtain a Master Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Southern Mississippi. He won the R. D.; L. D. Family Health Center at Mississippi Health Care Association Outstanding Nutrition/ Patient Educator of the Year Award in 1995, and the Practical Nursing Outstanding Student Award in 1997. While serving in the United Army he was the number one grunt at Ft. Polk, and went on to serve two terms in Vietnam with 11th Calvary Blackhorses.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorne Fredrick and Jean Cook Mennell.
He is survived by his brother and sister in law, Robert Lorne and Sue F. Mennell of Magnolia, TX; his sister and brother in law, Dorothy Ann and Eddie Lawrence Salge of Magnolia, TX; two nieces, Lisa Carol and her husband Andy James Green of Star Tannery, VA, and Amy Elizabeth and her husband Jason Ailor of Cypress, TX; three great nephews, Forest James Green of Magnolia, TX, Hunter Lorne Green of Star Tannery, VA, and Ridge Engle Green of Star Tannery, VA; and one great niece, Madison Salge of Cypress, TX.
